Gothenburg-Jönköping Transport Corridor, Environmental Impact of Strategic Choices (Swedish National Road Administration, publication 1998:62E, S-781 87 Borlänge, Sweden)
The study involved an SEA of transport infrastructure planning and is aimed at method development. The study has also included economical and road safety analyses. The SEA is applied for the multi-modal corridor Gothenburg- Jönköping with seven combinations of road and rail development options.
The impact evaluation was based on established national and regional environmental goals. Important aspects taken up in the analysis concern the barrier effect and dominance of new infrastructure in the landscape as well as its conformance with the existing historical/cultural structures developed by man. These and other significant potential effects are analysed at the regional and inter-regional level.
Analyses of this type are expected to be used for decision-making concerning the choice of measures for solving transport problems in a geographical corridor and/or for decisions on the function of a corridor within a larger network of transport links.
